Who we are
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a Christian organisation that provides aviation services for people living in remote areas around the world.
For over 60 years, MAF aircraft have been serving isolated and underprivileged men, women and children, by providing a regular flight and freight service bringing the essentials of life into these communities as well as medical care, emergency food, and Christian hope.
MAF is also part of a dynamic worldwide partnership. Today worldwide, the partnership operates 142 aircraft from bases in over 30 countries.
Our purpose is to deliver practical and spiritual care to people in places of deepest human need. Every three minutes, an MAF plane takes off or lands somewhere in the world. These flights enable crucial work by many aid and development agencies, missions, local churches and other national groups.
MAF is serving the Church and communities in remote areas where flying is not a luxury, but a lifeline.
What We Do
For those in remote or isolated communities a MAF flight is often the only way to get life-saving care.
MAF responds quickly and effectively to save lives and ease suffering caused by accidents, disease, disasters, deadly epidemics, and complications of childbirth. In many areas, the only way to reach a hospital or health clinic is aboard a small MAF plane.
Thousands are saved each year because MAF can transport doctors, nurses, and medicines to patients in minutes instead of days or weeks. Epidemics are prevented with vaccines and medical personnel transported by MAF.
MAF flights provide regular deliveries of personnel and supplies to medical facilities otherwise isolated by barriers of terrain. MAF communications networks advance healthcare by providing reliable voice and computer connections that allow remote facilities to access medical services and systems a world away.
In isolated regions, MAF helps meet some of the most basic human needs.
MAF mission-pilots enable community development by transporting staff and needed supplies for health and community improvement projects, as well as devoting many hours of personal time.
MAF helps improve living conditions and enables thousands of families to develop safe, healthy, and productive communities.
Partnering with other organisations.
MAF Australia works with over 90 Christian and humanitarian organisations around the Asia region and North Australia. Our plane flights and other services help keep them running, so more remote people can receive the help they need.
For the missionaries and church pastors serving in remote areas MAF is priceless.
Around the world, thousands of dedicated missionaries face overwhelming barriers in their mission to bring God’s Word to the lost and hurting.Without the help of MAF, these barriers are nearly insurmountable.
MAF increases the effectiveness of Christian work by saving time, money and energy in remote places where robbery, war or infrastructure deterioration makes road travel difficult or impossible. To help fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission, MAF enables and supports …
- Missionaries and local evangelists to unreached people
- Indigenous church workers to isolated villages
- Church capacity building through discipleship, skills training, and leadership development
- Scripture translation and distribution
The barriers created by natural disasters are overcome by MAF
When relief organizations such as World Vision, Samaritan’s Purse, and Compassion International respond to disasters or work in areas of drought, poverty, and oppression, they often depend on MAF. An indispensable partner in their efforts to alleviate suffering, MAF transports food, medicines, and supplies for relief programs.
In the wake of natural disasters and civil wars, MAF airplanes can take off and land on short, crude airstrips to reach those in greatest need.
During crises, MAF services provide reliable, timely delivery of emergency supplies and personnel. Food arrives in time to alleviate hunger, medicines and emergency medical evacuations save lives, and goods and supplies improve living conditions.
A MAF plane is a welcome sight to people who have lost so much.
MAF communications further facilitate relief programs. Agency and relief efforts are more easily coordinated through MAF technology networks, even when an entire nation has lost electrical power.
